November 2022 will mark 10 years of operation for the Fairmont Wind Farm located in Antigonish county, Nova Scotia. This was Natural Forces’ first project in Nova Scotia and kickstarted the highly successful development, construction, and operations model for all subsequent projects. The wind farm, despite operating in harsh conditions of high winds, ice, and the occasional hurricane, shows little signs of aging.

The turbines have produced an immense number of 128,176,500 kWh of emissions-free energy since COD in November 2012. The turbines have operated with remarkable consistency year by year producing the forecasted annual energy production with an average availability of 98.6%.

What’s next for the project? Land leases were recently extended to 2042 and negotiations are ongoing to extend the service and maintenance agreement with ENERCON, the turbine manufacturer.

The project is currently halfway through the 20-year power purchase agreement with Nova Scotia Power, so we look forward to another 10 (or more!) years of success! The Zonnebeke and Sukunka Wind Energy Project Grand Openin
